PACIFIC NORTHWEST BALLET
THE
PERPETUAL STATE
CREATED BY EZRA THOMSON
CHOREOGRAPHY BY EZRA THOMSON
This ballet, steeped in the ghosts of its Protagonist, is a journey –through heartbreak and loss – down the uncompleted roads left by our parents indications.

The Scenic Design was based on a desire to nudge the stage beyond the conventional open stage of legs, borders, and backdrop. It also needed an element that would root it into the Pacific Northwest, where the Choreographer, Thomson, drew inspiration for the piece. The hanging wooden poles represent both trees and a bars of a prison, suggesting both the freedom in nature and the burden of grief. The poles begin the ballet touching the floor, and almost imperceptibly rise over the course of the 25-minute piece, ever so gradually allowing the viewer a consolation.
