GHOST VARIATIONS
CHOREOGRAPHY BY JESSICA LANG
Ghost Variations began with the music that shares its title. It was the last piano work of Robert Schumann before he was committed to an asylum. It was dedicated to his wife, Clara, a brilliant composer in her own right. She arranged the music, and it is perhaps difficult where his hand ends and hers begins.

The design was a strict, cold palette warming up only to lavenders. Shadows are embraced in the piece in several moments. At times they are friends at times they are ghosts, suggesting you could be haunted by your own self.
The theme of the piano work, Ghost Variations, was one that Robert Schumann had thought was a new concept spoken to him by angelic voices, but was in fact one he had written years earlier.
